Dr. Tamana (Bunny) Begay was raised in Portland, Oregon, and spent summers on the Northern Navajo Reservation. Dr. Begay began her college career at San Diego Mesa Community College and transferred to Revelle College at UC San Diego. She received a Bachelor’s degree of Science in Biology and minors in Art History and Psychology from UC San Diego in 1999. After completing the post-baccalaureate program at the UCSF School of Dentistry, she obtained a D.D.S. degree from the Dugoni School of Dentistry at the University of the Pacific, and started work with the Indian Health Service. Dr. Begay is involved with several local and national organizations promoting the advancement of American Indian and Alaska Native students into higher education and professional careers.
